This course provides agencies with a practical approach to managing and improving their Field Training Officer (FTO) program. We clarify the FTO manager’s role, outline effective selection and retention of FTOs, and address legal and liability considerations. Participants will also learn to review Daily Observation Reports and manage program documentation efficiently.

The course goes beyond fundamentals by emphasizing forensic post-training reviews to support better new hire decisions. We also examine emerging trends, such as working with Gen Z trainees and leveraging mentoring and Bridge In-service training to enhance probationary officer performance. During the training, we will examine agency-specific challenges to help attendees improve their FTO program.
